Privacy Policy

Lingavela ("we", "us", "our") operates the Lingavela mobile application and the website lingavela.com (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights. The data controller is Anton Bashmakov, an individual based in Thailand, operating under the Lingavela brand. Contact: support@lingavela.com.
1. Information we collect
What information does Lingavela collect?
- Account data: email address and authentication identifiers (to create and secure your account).
- Learning data: your progress, settings, streaks, XP, and the sentences/answers you submit (to run the app and personalize your learning).
- Subscription data: purchase and entitlement status from the App Store / Google Play (via RevenueCat). We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
- Technical & diagnostic data: device type, OS version, app version, and crash/error reports (via Sentry) to keep the app stable. We aim to anonymize identifiers in diagnostics.
- Usage analytics: aggregated, non-identifying usage events to improve the Service.
- Notifications token: if you enable notifications (via Expo), a push token to send reminders.
We do not sell your personal data.
2. How we use your information
Why do we process your data?
- To provide, maintain, and personalize the Service (learning, progress, AI feedback).
- To process subscriptions and verify entitlements.
- To improve features, fix bugs, and ensure security.
- To send notifications you've opted into (e.g., learning reminders, trial expiration).
- To comply with legal obligations.
Legal bases (EEA/UK): performance of a contract (providing the app), legitimate interests (improving/securing the Service), consent (notifications, where required), and legal obligation.
3. AI processing of your text
What happens to the sentences I write or chat messages? When you use AI-assisted features (such as feedback on free-text submissions, explanations, or AI tutor chat), the text you submit is sent to third-party large language model (LLM) providers to generate the response. The specific provider mix may change over time as we evaluate quality, latency, and reliability. We send only the text needed for the specific feature and do not include identifying account information unless required to operate that feature. Submissions are not used to train these providers' general-purpose models where we can opt out via their API settings. For an up-to-date list of LLM sub-processors, contact support@lingavela.com.
4. Service providers (processors)
Who do we share data with? We share data only with providers that help us run the Service, under appropriate agreements:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and progress storage (hosted on AWS in Australia, region ap-southeast-2 / Sydney).
- RevenueCat + Apple App Store / Google Play — subscription processing and entitlement verification.
- Sentry — crash and error reporting (with personal identifiers stripped where feasible).
- Third-party LLM providers — AI feedback and tutor chat features. See section 3 above.
- Expo (Expo Application Services) — push notifications (if enabled) and over-the-air updates.
Where your data is stored: your account and learning data are stored on Supabase infrastructure located in Australia (AWS ap-southeast-2). Subscription state is processed by RevenueCat (United States). AI text processing takes place at the relevant LLM provider's data centers (currently primarily in the European Union and the United States). This means your data may be processed outside your country of residence; where required by law, we rely on safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or equivalent transfer mechanisms.
5. Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service or meet legal obligations. When you delete your account through Settings → Account → Delete Account in the app, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is legally required (for example, subscription and tax records may be retained for up to 7 years in anonymized form).
6. Your rights
What are my privacy rights? Depending on your location (e.g., GDPR in the EEA/UK, CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict processing of your data, and to object or withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact support@lingavela.com or use in-app account deletion (see Delete Account). You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the European Union and other jurisdictions where local law requires a higher age of consent for data processing), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us at support@lingavela.com and we will delete it promptly.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (encryption in transit, access controls) to protect your data. No method is 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; we'll post the new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you in-app or by email.
